Mississippi State added to schedule

Huskies to face Bulldogs on trip to Vancouver

Saskatoon, SK - University of Saskatchewan Huskies head coach Greg Jockims announced this morning that they have added Mississippi State University to the 2006-07 schedule. The game will be played on Saturday, September 2nd at Douglas College in New Westminster, British Columbia. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 pm PST.

With the addition of Mississippi State, Saskatchewan will play three NCAA Division I opponents to begin the 2006-07 regular season.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are led by head coach Rick Stansbury, who is entering his ninth season at MSU. Prior to last season Stansbury, who is the third winningest coach in Mississippi State history, led the program to a school record four straight 20-win seasons.

Last season the Bulldogs (15-15, 5-11 SEC) finished fourth in the Southeastern Conference West Division, before losing 59-44 to South Carolina in the opening round of the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs missed the NCAA Tournament, breaking their streak of four consecutive seasons in the dance. The Bulldogs can return nine players from last year's squad.

Earlier that day at noon Saskatchewan will tip-off the 2006-07 season against Lute Olson and the Arizona Wildcats at UBC's War Memorial Gymnasium. The next day Saskatchewan will face the New Mexico State Aggies at noon, also at UBC.

This will be the first time in almost 20 years that the Huskies have played two games on the same day. On November 8th, 1986 the Huskies defeated the University of Mary (73-55) and lost to Alberta (68-88) in Regina at the Cougar Classic.

The Huskies went 23-18 overall last year, advancing to the national championships where they finished seventh. The Huskies claimed the Central Division regular season title for the second straight season before winning the Central Division Final against Alberta. The Dogs finished third at the Canada West Final Four, defeating Regina in the third place game after losing a one-point nail-biter at UBC.
