Gottselig, Jarrett commit to Huskies

Saskatoon, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have received commitments from two recruits for this fall, announced head coach Greg Jockims Thursday morning. One college transfer originally from Findlater, and one high school senior from Saskatoon, make up the first commitments in the class of 2007.

Troy Gottselig and Brennan Jarrett will join the Green & White for next season.

"We really work hard to make the foundation of our program Saskatchewan players," said Jockims. "We're very pleased that we can add two more players of Troy and Brennan's caliber to our team. Both of them fit very well into our style of play, and I'm confident they will make good contributions to our program both next season and in the future."

Gottselig
Gottselig, a six-foot-eight forward from Medicine Hat College, chose Saskatchewan over several other Canada West schools after spending the last two years with the Rattlers. This past season as a sophomore he was named Second Team All-South Division. He averaged 15.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, which ranked seventh and second in the ACAC South Division respectively. A graduate of Moose Jaw Peacock he helped the Toilers win two consecutive city championships, averaging 18.6 points per game as a senior. "Troy is exactly the kind of athletic forward that we look for. He can shoot the three-point shot, can run the floor and he can really rebound," said Jockims. "His experience playing in the ACAC will help him make the adjustment to the CIS level. The fact that he's grown a few inches since high school doesn't hurt either."

Jarrett
Jarrett joins the Huskies after winning back-to-back city championships with Saskatoon Holy Cross. A six-foot-three guard, Jarrett led the city in scoring with 24.3 points per game as a senior. He helped the Crusaders to a 12-1 record in league play, and earned All-Tournament honours at the Mount Royal Tip-Off Classic and the Edmonton Harry Ainlay Tri-Prov. He was also a key contributor to Cross' 2005-06 team that went 32-2 overall, capturing the 6A Provincial Championship. "Brennan comes from a great program at Cross, and he's had some outstanding coaching which really shows in his level of skill," commented Jockims. "I really like his ability to shoot the ball, his athleticism and his toughness." Jarrett joins four other former Crusader players on the Huskie roster.

Jockims said he hopes to add a couple more players to this year's class in the coming days and weeks.

The Huskies went 23-20 overall this year, finishing third at the Canada West Final Four for the second straight season. The Huskies finished second in the Central Division standings before winning the Central Division Championship on the road against Alberta.

Saskatchewan can return eleven players from this year's team, including all five starters, in 2007-08. Guard Sam Lamontagne was the only fifth-year senior on the squad.
