Huskie recruit Mac Fairbairn |
Saskatoon, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have received commitments from two more recruits for this fall, announced head coach Greg Jockims Wednesday morning.
Nairen Duncan and Mac Fairbairn will join the Green & White for next season. Duncan and Fairbairn join Brennan Jarrett and Troy Gottselig, whose committments were announced at the end of March, in this year's recruiting class.
"We're really excited about both Nairen and Mac," said Jockims. "Both of them fit very well into our style of play, and both are really good athletes and students. They will definitely help us both this year and in the future."

Duncan |
Duncan, a six-foot-five forward, comes to the Huskies from Moose Jaw Peacock where he played three years for the Toilers senior squad. This past season as a senior he helped lead the Toilers to the City Championship as well as the 4A Provincial Championship. He averaged 14.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, and was named to the All-Tournament team at the Brandon Crocus Plains Invitational. "Nairen is a great athlete with a really long wingspan," said Jockims. "He can really rebound and those long arms can cause a lot of problems on defense. He has some work to do offensively away from the basket but he has a lot of potential." He becomes the third Moose Jaw product on the Huskies roster joining former teammate Gottselig and Kyle Grant (Central).

Fairbairn |
Fairbairn, a six-foot-four guard, is from North Vancouver Argyle where he was a three-year starter and chose the Huskies over several other CIS programs. As a senior Fairbairn was named First Team All-Howe Sound for the second consecutive season after leading the league in scoring with 26.5 points per game. He also averaged 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.9 steals a game. He helped the Pipers to second place finish in the league, and earned All-Tournament honours at the University of Windsor and North Shore Invitationals. He was also a key contributor to Argyle's 2004-05 team that went 35-3 overall, capturing the league championship and No. 1 ranking in the province. "Mac is a real blue-chip prospect," commented Jockims. "His skills will fit very well into our systems and our program. He's tough, can defend and he can really get to the hoop and finish with his athleticism. He's also very competitive and works very hard, both on and off the court."
The Huskies went 23-20 overall this year, finishing third at the Canada West Final Four for the second straight season. The Huskies finished second in the Central Division standings before winning the Central Division Championship on the road against Alberta.
Saskatchewan can return eleven players from this year's team, including all five starters, in 2007-08. Guard Sam Lamontagne was the only fifth-year senior on the squad.
