Spagrud closes in on scoring, rebounding milestones
A three-time All-Canadian and former National Freshman of the Year, Spagrud also needs eight rebounds to break the school record held by Byron Tokarchuk. It is believed that would also establish a new national mark including non-conference play.
Jackson, a four-time All-Canadian guard and two-time Mike Moser Award winner ('91 and '92), scored 3581 points in 174 career games with the Thunderbirds. That total includes all conference and non-conference games against intercollegiate competition only.
Tokarchuk, a four-time All-Canadian center, grabbed 1644 rebounds during his 171 game career with the Huskies. Spagrud just recently broke Tokarchuk's school career scoring record.
"I played with Byron and played against Jackson, those two guys are two of the best all-time players in this league," said Huskie head coach Greg Jockims. "For Andrew to be putting up numbers with those guys and be mentioned in their class is something special. It just shows how talented he is, his dedication and how hard he's worked."
Spagrud will also set a school record on Friday night by playing in his 174th career game. He currently shares the record with John Cleland (1983-88) and Matt Greenberg (2001-06).
He is also closing in on the CIS record for career points in conference play, set by Calgary's Richard Bohne (2171 points). He needs 11 points to become only the seventh player in CIS history to score 2000 career conference points.
