Spagrud sets Canada West all-time career scoring record

Saskatoon, Sask. - Andrew Spagrud, a 6-foot-8 fifth-year senior forward, set the all-time Canada West Conference career scoring record Saturday night in an 86-73 victory over the No. 3-ranked Calgary Dinos on Senior Night at the Physical Activity Complex.

Spagrud entered the game needing 18 points to break the 12-year old record set by University of Calgary Dino guard Richard Bohne of 2171 points. He broke the record with a layup off an assist from Troy Gottselig with 2:58 remaining in the third quarter.

"It’s a weight off my shoulders," Spagrud, who was presented with the gameball after setting the record, said following the game. "There was so much focus on it, it was hard to avoid it. But now I can just focus on playing."

"Andrew has had an outstanding career and it’s a huge testament to his career," said Huskie head coach Greg Jockims. "We didn’t really talk about it but everybody knew about it. He came out determined and played aggressive."

Spagrud, a three-time All-Canadian, finished with a game-high 28 points, pushing his career total in conference play to 2182.

He also finished his conference career second on the conference career lists for rebounds (1039) and steals (221).
