Hot shooting 'Horns down Huskies

Lethbridge, AB - Despite already being eliminated from postseason contention, the Lethbridge Pronghorns put forth their most complete game of the season, downing the Saskatchewan Huskies, 87-67. The win also snapped the Horns 10 game losing streak.

The Horns were smoking hot in the opening half, shooting a scorching 62% from the field, including 60% from behind the arc. It was not like the Huskies didn’t have a hot opening half themselves, hitting on 55% of the their attempts. The Horns hot shooting also lead to a exceptional night from senior point guard Allen Kadima (Ajax, ON, 5th), as he picked up 16 assists on the night, 10 of which came in the opening half.

For the first time this season, the Horns won all four quarters, leading by four points after the first quarter and 11 at the break and continued to roll through the second half.

While the offensive pace cooled in the second half, the Horns still managed to score another 20 points in the third to extend their lead by another six points heading into the final quarter. From there on the Horns cruised to their first victory of 2009.

Danhue Lawrence (Toronto, ON, 3rd) led the Horns with 25 points, while shooter Shawn Nelson (Stirling, AB, 4th) caught fire, hitting four-three pointers on enroute to 23 points. Kadima picked up a double-double, recording 13 points to go along with his career high 16 assists.

Canada West leading scorer Showron Glover (Fresno, California, 3rd) led the Huskies with a game high 29 points, while Troy Gottselig (Findlater, SK, 4th)was the only other Huskie to hit for double-digits with 15 points.

With the win the Horns improve to 5-16, while the Huskie fall to 9-12. The Horns will finish their season tomorrow night, hosting the Huskies, tip-off is set for 8:15 at the 1st Choice Savings Centre Gym.
