Glover, Lieffers lead Dogs to victory over 'Horns

Lethbridge, AB - Canada West leading scorer Showron Glover (Fresno, California, Jr.) put on an offensive display in the second half, scoring 34 of his game high 37 points to lead the Saskatchewan Huskies to a 102-77 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in the final conference game of the season.

After trailing by five points at the half, Glover and the Huskies caught fire, turning the deficit into a eight point lead by the end of the third quarter. Glover finished the night going 12 for 21 from the field and 10-19 from the charity stripe. The offensive outburst from the Huskies continued in the fourth, putting up 35 point in the final 10 minutes.

Michael Lieffers (Saskatoon, SK, So.) also had a huge night, recording a double-double with 20 rebounds and 18 points, while Troy Gottselig (Findlater, SK, Sr.) chipped in with 16 points.

The Horns jumped out of the gates early, hitting their first three shots and built an early 10 point lead. While they were able to keep Glover in check, the Huskies chipped away and hung around for the first two quarters, setting up the huge second half offensive explosion.

A huge deciding factor in the Huskies` second half turnaround was 19 offensive second half rebounds, leading to 18 second chance points. The Huskies also held a huge overall rebounding advantage, 53 to the Horns 35.

Lieffers' monsterous put-back dunk with 8:28 to go gave the Huskies a 75-62 lead. They would continue to build on that lead as Glover was able to get into the lane, and then threw an alley-oop to Gottselig to put the Dogs up 21 with just over five minutes to play.

The Horns were led offensively by Danhue Lawrence (Toronto, ON, Jr.), who picked up a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Fifth-year senior guard Allen Kadima (Ajax, ON) picked up 11 points and with his nine assists, set a new Horns single season mark for assists with 144.

With the loss the Horns conclude the Canada West season out of the playoffs with a 5-17 record. The Huskies moved to 10-12 and will travel to Edmonton next weekend to face the Alberta Golden Bears in the best-of-three Central Division semi-final.

Notes: Glover set a school record for total points in conference play with 548. The total ranks fifth on the all-time Canada West list. That beat Dean Wiebe's mark of 541 in 1993-94.

Glover also set a school record and tied the Canada West record for steals in a conference season with 86. That tied former Winnipeg guard Erfan Nasajpour's mark set in 2006-07.

Lieffers became only the ninth Huskie to grab 20 or more rebounds in a game.
