High School: Played for coach Scott Hundseth at St. Joseph in Saskatoon... Played three years for the Guardians senior squad... As a senior was a team captain... Helped the Guardians to a fifth place finish in the city... Lost a controversial city quarter-final to Bishop Mahoney... Hit a long buzzer-beater three-pointer to beat Aden Bowman in the quarterfinals at the Bedford Road Invitational Tournament... Was also a finalist in the BRIT slam dunk contest... Was an tournament All-Star at the St. Joseph Classic... Named Honourable Mention All-City by the Saskatoon Star Phoenix... As a junior helped the Guardians to a third place finish in the city... Also won the Mount Royal Tip-Off Classic and St. Joseph Classic... As a sophomore was named the team Rookie of the Year... Helped the team to a berth in the City Final, and finished third at the Provincial Championships... Was a teammate of fellow Huskie recruit Mark Breker for two years... Played as a sophomore with former Huskie guard Mark Thompson... Played his club basketball for the Junior Huskies... Was a member of the Saskatchewan Juvenile Provincial team in the summer of 2001... Graduated in June of 2003.
Personal: Born October 10, 1985 in Saskatoon, SK... Parents are Glade and Phyllis Penner... Older brother Matt played basketball for the Huskies from 2000-2002... Cousin Andrew Bergen played hockey for the Acadia Axemen... Says his favourite player is Ricky Davis of the Cleveland Cavaliers... Favourite team is the Portland Trailblazers... Enjoys reading and listening to music in his spare time... Was also an outstanding football player in high school.
