Prior to coming to the Dogs, he was the head coach of the St. Joseph Guardians junior boys team in Saskatoon. While at St Joseph (2000-2002), he led the Guardians to a 32-8 overall record, winning the 2000-01 City Championship. In 2001-02, they were city-finalists. He is a certified NCCP Level II basketball coach, and is working towards finishing his Level III. Sullivan also coached the junior volleyball team and senior badminton team for one season each at St. Joe's.
Sullivan attended Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, graduating in 1988. While there he played both basketball and volleyball, earning team MVP honours in the latter. He helped the Redman win the 1986 volleyball City Championship, and earn a third place finish in the Provincial Championships that same year.He also earned the Outstanding Contributions to Athletics Award.
After high school Sullivan started a career in the military. He has served in the Navy and has seen active duty in many parts of the world. He has earned three medals for his service, the Canadian Forces Decoration, Canadian Peace Keeping Medal and the United Nations Peace Keeping Medal. Currently he is in the Naval Reserve, serving as Master Seaman at HMCS Unicorn.
After going back to school, he earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina in the spring of 2000. He is currently a teacher in the Saskatoon Catholic school system.
Sullivan, 33, was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. He is married to Michelle Sullivan. In his spare time he enjoys weightlifting, running and reading.
